Yeah, I know YouTuber podcasts are corny. But the idea of Kusaricast had been brewing in my mind for a while. I wanted a platform where I could dive deeper into the weirdest corners of the internet with guests who share my fascination. Deciding to make a podcast was the easy part; finding the right guest for the inaugural episode was the challenge. As I scanned potential guests, my attention landed on Nick Nobody. Nick and I have both delved into the life of Daniel Larson, producing introductory documentaries that have garnered substantial views. Our videos were and still are neck and neck in popularity, and I thought it would be perfect to have us hop on a call for an interview. This shared subject and our analytical approach to content made Nick an ideal guest for episode one.

Preparing for the interview involved checking myself back in to Nick's content. I revisited a lot of his other documentaries, appreciating his blend of commentary with research and presentation. His dedication to uncovering the truth and presenting it fairly is something that resonates deeply with my own philosophy. I wanted to make sure our conversation flowed naturally while covering all the good topics that would provide the most value to both our audiences.

From the outset, Nick was personable and articulate. We started with a bit of a rocky intro—typical for a first episode—but it set a relaxed tone that allowed for genuine conversation. One of the primary topics was our shared experience documenting Daniel Larson. Nick's insight into Larson's life, the vast amount of information available, and the challenges of sifting through it all provided a decent look into the intricacies of taking on such a project, and how we both handle it.
"Honestly, and this might sound crazy, but it was just how much information there is on Dan," Nick said. "The amount of documentation done on Daniel is insane, more than anybody that I've ever covered."

The conversation naturally shifted to our methods of handling criticism. Nick's strategy of largely ignoring negative comments past the initial upload period contrasted with my more reactive stance, definitely showing how people like us in the same "scene" process things a bit differently.
"Honestly, I Joe Rogan it," Nick said, referring to his practice of avoiding comments after the first day. "I don't even look at it."
One of the more compelling parts of our conversation was discussing why Daniel Larson has captured such public attention. Nick and I both started documenting Daniel's antics around the same time in 2023, and we have different yet complementary insights into his bizarre life.
“The public fascination with Daniel probably stems from how insane he is. People are drawn to his chaotic behavior, whether it’s his public freakouts or his disturbing self-harm episodes. There's something about his unpredictability that keeps people watching.”
Documenting someone as controversial as Daniel Larson comes with significant challenges. Nick and I both faced the issue of having too much information and needing to decide what to include in our documentaries.
Me: “Documenting someone like Daniel, he's a very controversial figure, obviously, must come with some challenges. What were some of the toughest moments that you faced during your research and production?”
Nick Nobody: “The toughest part was stringing together my documentaries on him. The amount of documentation is just crazy. For me, the hardest part was picking and choosing what to include. If I did every single day and every single thing that happened in his life, the videos would be 10 hours long.”
This level of detail required a careful balance of thoroughness and conciseness, ensuring that the most important and compelling aspects of Larson's story were presented without overwhelming the viewer. Speaking of being overwhelmed, pretty much every podcaster knows that technical issues are part of the game, and Kusaricast's first episode was no exception. Early in the recording, we encountered a few hiccups, such as alert notifications disrupting our flow.

“Speaking of comments, I'm recording this on Streamlabs and forgot that I still have the alert box on. I got to turn that off. Sorry about that,” I said, frantically trying to turn my alertbox setting off in Streamlabs before it would inevitably pop back up again minutes later. It sucks, but it's just part of the process.
Nick’s journey from a stand-up comedian to a YouTube documentarian was a highlight of our conversation. He shared about how he was able to pivot and find a new creative outlet during the pandemic:
"I dropped out of college to be a stand-up comedian, and then COVID hit. All the bars and stand-up spots closed down, so I channeled my energy into making videos. I fell in love with the process."
Nick also detailed his disciplined research process, involving extensive note-taking and cross-referencing:
"I start with their Kiwi Farms thread or any other online resources, and then I watch other videos to see what’s already been covered. It’s about building a skeleton based on existing information and then fleshing it out with your research."
As for his plans for future content, Nick, at the time we recorded this episode, was particularly looking forward to the release of his then-upcoming video on FedSmoker, hinted at a very compelling story to come. And compelling was I right, because after only a month that very video would go on to reach 150,000 views.
"I’m working on a video about Fed Smoker, one of the most fascinating people I've ever come across. He was a very schizophrenic man who traveled across the United States in search of dirty, crooked cops. His story is as wild as it gets."
In conclusion, interviewing Nick Nobody was a really fun experience, and I'm very glad and grateful that it ended up being the first episode of Kusaricast. We had a very enjoyable conversation that I believe our audiences will find both entertaining and informative. In the future, I hope to continue to grow podcast by getting more guests on and having more interesting discussions like the one I'm writing about.
